In 1980, several families living in Peter’s Valley started a buying club to purchase healthy foods in bulk.  The bulk food was delivered to the Environmental Center in Walpack where members took these block items such as dried milk, peanut butter and cheeses home and repackaged them into smaller packages.  Members of the buying club who were potters at Peter’s Valley were renowned for the ability to package bulk cheese by accurately guessing the weight, similar to lumps of clay.  Within a few months, delivery issues necessitated moving the operations to Sandyston.  Once again, the food co-op moved from Sandyston and found a space within a strip mall on Route 206 in Andover.  From Andover, the co-op moved to Spring Street in Newton and then to its current location on Moran Street in Newton with over 300 members.
