Manager's Report

Text of the Manager's Report that appears each month in our membership newsletter, The Grape Vine.

Properly speaking, it should be called "Managers' Reports" as our 3 managers, Terri, Betty, and Debbie, take turns reporting.

March, 2003
Debbie

Hooray! Spring is just around the corner! It’s hard to believe after the winter we have had.

We have a new distributor for our nuts, Tierra Farm. All their nuts are certified organic. The roasted nuts are all dry roasted. They have no added oils, no refined sugars, and sea salt is used on all salted nuts. They are slightly more expensive, but they are very fresh and delicious.

Eggs have gone up in price since we have a new supplier. They are now $2.50/3.00 per dozen. The eggs are all natural and the chickens have free range.

A new product to look for at the Co-op is Rudi’s Organic Bakery. We have Potato Onion Bread and Tuscan Roasted Garlic Bread. Try them, they’re very good!

Produce is still coming in every other Monday. This month we will get deliveries on March 3rd, 17th, and 31st.  For April, it will be the 14th and the 28th.

February, 2003
Betty

We are receiving on a weekly basis wonderful cookies and cakes from Claire Mazan. Look for pie wedges from Claire in the future.

The last delivery from Bread Alone was on February 7th. [Note: The distributor who delivered it to the Co-op ceased carrying that brand when demand for other product lines swamped him, alas. -- Webmaster ]

Thanks go out to Rob and Cathy Jacoby and their crew of Co-op members. Inventory went quite smoothly.

Terri, Debbie and I need help every day... not just on delivery days. It's important for everyone to work his or her scheduled time.

Store Reminders

When adding stock to shelves, please check expiration dates. Rotate older stock to the front. Place new stock at the back.

Write prices legibly on the back of packages. Avoid writing on the front or over expiration dates.

Before packaging bulk items, ask managers how large to make the portions. Always wash your hands and wear gloves.

Clean up after yourself. Wash any cups or scoops that you have used. Clean the counters and the floor.

Weighing & Labeling:

When making labels, copy exactly what's on the box. Many people have dietary requirements.

January, 2003
Terri

Happy New Year! We hope all our members had an enjoyable holiday season and are ready to begin a healthy New Year as a Co-op member. If you didn't renew your membership by January 15th, you will have to re-join at the $30 fee but, as we all know, it is well worth it.

Those of you who have been on a flex schedule are asked to call Cande and sign up for a regular work schedule. It's a help to us to be able to count on workers showing up on their scheduled workdays.

And speaking of…we want to take this opportunity to thank those members who are always here to work when scheduled, always fulfill their 24 hours a year and even put in above and beyond when they see they are needed. You are indeed a blessing to the Co-op and so appreciated by all of us. Thanks.

A special thank you to Barbara Frey who gave the Co-op a cordless vacuum as a Christmas present. All members are welcome to use it when those inevitable spills happen by the grain and flour bins.

A fun part of my job is ordering (and, of course, trying) new products. A lot of new foods have arrived in the last few weeks. Here's a sampling of some of our newest, worth-a-try products:

  1. Annie's Naturals Organic Raspberry Mustard, Honey Mustard and Horseradish Mustard
  2. Annie's Naturals Salad Dressing is now available in single serving packets. They're great to take along for lunch at work, school or picnics (yes -- warm weather will get here eventually!).
  3. Olio Beato Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Italy
  4. Lundberg Bean and Rice Chips
  5. Our Family Farm Wild Animal Vanilla Cookies, Arctic Bear and Iced Lemon Cookies
  6. Flavorganics Organic Syrups in Caramel, Hazelnut, Irish Crème and Amaretto. These can be used to flavor coffee or pour over pancakes, waffles, fruit or ice cream. Add to seltzer to create a great soft drink!
  7. Organic Gourmet Hollandaise Sauce Mix and Bearnaise Sauce Mix
  8. Darielle Low-Carb Pasta
  9. Fall River Wild Rice Chips, boxed Wild and White Rice Blend and Wild Rice Ready in 2 minutes.
  10. Dried fruit and veggies by Just Tomatoes in handy snack packs. These were a great holiday seller.
Organic fruits and vegetables continue to be a big hit but you need to shop early in the week to be sure to get the best selection. We are still getting deliveries every other Monday

Eggs are in plentiful supply right now. And don't forget to shop Co-op for your Super Bowl Sunday snack needs!

In-Stock supplements are 10% off for the month of January.
